The Music Lesson Henri Matisse

* Please note: This is Day 2 of a two-day programme. The artists' intention is that both programmes are attended for children to get the most out of them.

Day 2 (continued from 15/2/21)

Visual artist Helen Barry and violinist Gwendolyn Masin have spent the past months creating a programme designed for children that brings visual art and classical music into playful partnership. Gwendolyn and Helen believe that children can draw a path to their own inherent wisdom if their imagination is engaged. Children can be focused and inspired without constant need for stimulation from others - once they know how. The programme takes children on a journey through music (from Bach to Boulanger), art (Chagall to Van Gogh), art history, and music history.
With a particular focus on communication that is reflective of the core principles and approaches used by Visual Thinking Strategies, Gwendolyn and Helen help deepen learning through inquiry-based teaching. Discovering art, music, and in turn, themselves, children’s imagination and attention is engaged, resulting in meaningful transformation. All children aged 5-12 welcome, accompanied by an adult. Only ten places available We will have a waiting-list. In case you’ve missed your space, please write to us at zen@the-exhale.com so we can let you know when we will perform the next programme.

Our community classes are based on a system of dāna. Dāna is the practice of cultivating generosity. At The Exhale, multiple hours of learning are given each week in the form of community classes, where the price of a class is recommended but not imposed. Those who teach these community classes volunteer their time and offer the revenue generated by it to faculty members who are in financial need during this unprecedented time in our collective history. We thank you for supporting this eco-system of giving and receiving!
