Romanian-born pianist Dan Marginean started piano at the age of 6 in his home country. He graduated his first Bachelor at the Music Academy Gh.Dima in Cluj-Napoca in the class of Prof. Dr. Adriana Bera. In 2012 Dan graduated a 2nd Bachelor from the Royal College of Music, London being guided in his studies by Prof. Niel Immelman. Supported by the Swiss Confederation Excellence Scholarship, Dan continued his Masters Studies at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, under Prof. Jean-François Antonioli.
Passionate about chamber music and collaborative piano, Dan completed a second Masters in accompaniment at the same HEMU de Lausanne, studying the vocal and instrumental repertoire with professors such as Vincent Coq, Marc Pantillon, Todd Camburn and Beatrice Richoz. Currently, Dan is completing a one-year study in Orchestral Piano at the Music Academy of Zurich in the class of Prof. Peter Solomon.
As a pianist and chamber musician, Dan managed to win prestigious awards in national and international competitions in Europe and the UK. He also took part in Master Classes with professors such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Kevin Kenner and Barry Douglas and more recently with Helmut Deutsch and Martin Katz in collaborative piano.
Dan plays regularly as a soloist and part of different chamber music ensembles around Europe and teaches piano in several music schools in Switzerland. Since 2018 Dan took over the direction of the Private Music School “ArtsCademia”, based in Lausanne and Bern. Together with his wife, flutist Johanna Schwarzl, they seek to create new concert experiences and formats to reach out to new audiences and bring classical music to different contexts.
