Singing Schubert on the viola

Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir

MD Oudeschans04529 Asdis Valdimarsdottir

Schubert wrote an immense amount of incredible songs, about 630, in his short life. For many, the voice is the perfect musical instrument, where music streams straight from the heart. When we have an instrument in our hands we try to play it as if it were a voice, without bow changes or string crossings getting in the way. This can be quite challenging! In his writing for string instruments Schubert invites us to sing more than most other composers. How can we do that successfully and not disturb the long flowing lines and endless melodies?
This class is for anyone working on Schubert´s music- and wishing to find a way to sing on their violin, viola or cello.
