Gwendolyn Masin by Tom Haeussler59a

PART 1. PART 2 TAKES PLACE ON 10 JUNE 2021.

In this two-part members' event, Gwendolyn Masin is in search of music that is off the beaten path. No better person than Peter Sheppard Skaerved to ask for help. Taking you through Russia, the Ukraine, Turkey, the Baltics, Eastern and Central Europe; from the Ottoman Empire to the Communist Era, from the sacred to the secular, Peter and Gwendolyn follow the trail of bread crumbs left along the road of history. Live demonstrations of folk-driven solo fragments will include works by Aram Khachtaturian, Julia Gomelsakay, Sidika Ozdil, Oner Ozmen, Naji Hakin, Mihailo Trandafilovski, Dafina Zeqiri, Giuseppe Tartini, and more. Whether uncovering folk traditions, or improvised playing, we will discover links and associations throughout the world that show us that, in the words of Eddie Stern: “we are a thriving mass of wholeness, interconnected, influential and capable of instigating change”. The premise of these conversations is that they be a moment of sharing and learning for all involved.
