In this hour-long session especially for our member community, Gwendolyn Masin will give a summary of her presentation given at the ESTA International Conference on September 25th. The discussion and masterclass will centre on how online teaching has impacted music education and, in particular, string-instrument learning. The masterclass involves her students Jaga Klimaszewska and Romana Szczepaniak. Come and join in the conversation - we all have something to add about online teaching!

The Great Exhale – How I Learned to Love Teaching and Community Online.

Can online teaching offer an element of focus and awareness that surpasses face-to-face tuition? Does technology provide a channel through which to delve deeper into aspects of playing that are often overlooked? Such as overcoming fatigue or discomfort while playing by way of raising understanding of how the body is designed to move; heightened engrossment for both teacher and student; precision in the diagnosis of technical challenges a student might experience and the remedy for these; or the possibility to integrate imagery, scores, audio samples and so on into the analysis of a work during the lesson.

During a masterclass with two young professional violinists, namely Ms Jaga Klimaszewska and Ms Romana Szczepaniak, Gwendolyn Masin will uncover what we can harness from the online-learning world, and how we can integrate this knowledge into our educational process whether we teach online or in person.

Repertoire performed: Jean Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor, 1st movement, and Felix Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor, 1st movement.
